The book began somewhat slowly, and at first, I found it difficult to keep all the characters straight as they use so many titles plus names. The book inspired in me an interest in British history, and I definitely googled for more information as I read (although you certainly do not need to do so). Her joys, her worries, and her sadnesses were also mine by the end of the novel. ![]() In this book, we get to know Victoria very well- I often felt like I was her confidante, navigating the political and social minefield of the British elite with her. She has developed Victoria as a truly complex character with many sides- pride, wit, lonely, romantic, etc.- making her into someone we could easily imagine knowing well. Victoria really came alive for me in this book how accurate the portrayal is only she could say, but I felt that the insight of Daisy Goodwin was truly remarkable and fascinating. ![]()
